Open Windows 7 Media Center in Live TV with a Jump List

In an earlier tutorial I wrote about creating a start up customization to always open Windows 7 Media Center in Live TV.  Well, if you don’t always want to open Media Center in Live TV, you can create a Windows Jump List and launch Media Center in Live TV only when you want to do so.

First, we’ll want to access Windows 7 Media Center from the Start Menu. Hover over Windows Media Center to access the fly-out menu. Find “Play Live TV” from the Jump List. Note: If “Play Live TV” isn’t listed, open Media Center, open Live TV. Then close Windows Media Center. It should now be listed on the Jump Menu.

Click on the “Pin” to the right to pin the item to the Jump List.

It will now appear at the top of the Jump List under “Pinned.”

One final addition would be to add Media Center application to the taskbar. To do that, simply right click on Windows Media Center from the Start Menu and click “Pin item to Taskbar.”

You’ll also notice that the TV Program Guide is a permanent fixture on the Media Center Jump List which is a nice addition if you prefer going straight to the TV guide rather than opening Live TV.
