Remove Unwanted Channels from Windows 7 Media Center Channel Guide

If your channel guide seems a little cluttered, or perhaps there are just a lot of channels that you never watch, why not get rid of some of them? It can make scanning or flipping through your channel guide much quicker and more efficient. There are plenty of channels I’ll just never watch. Like any of the shopping networks… (Side note: I actually know a fair number of people who really love these channels, I’m just not one of them. Wink)

There are a few ways to do this. Let’s check them out…

First, under Tasks, select the Settings tile.

Next, choose TV.

Then choose Guide.

Then Edit Channels…

Now you’ll want to scroll through the channel listings and uncheck the box to the left of each channel you wish to eliminate from your channel listings. When you’ve unchecked every channel you wish to eliminate, click Save.

Note: You can restore all those channels again by clicking Restore Default.

You can also accomplish this from the Guide itself. If you’re navigating with a mouse, right-click on the channel to bring up the pop -up menu. If using a Media Center remote, hit the ” i ” button.

To re-enable any of the disabled channels, you’ll need to go into the Settings > TV > Guide > Edit Channels (just like in the first steps of this article) and manually tick the respective check box.
