The Run box disappeared from it's longtime position right above the start button beginning with Windows Vista. It had been a mainstay in previous versions of Windows. It's still available in Windows 7, it's just buried way up in Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run.
Here's how to put it back on the Start menu...
Right-click on the Start button (Orb), and select Properties.

In the Taskbar and Start Menu tab and click the Customize button.

On the Customize Start Menu window, find the listings for Run command and click to select the checkbox. Click OK.

Now you'll have that run box back on the Start Menu.

Much of what you could access through the Run box can now be accessed with the Search box, but for me, old habits die hard, and I like quick access to the Run box.
