Andrew, Nice post. You obviously have your head screwed on all the way. I was very interested to read this, not becasue you have demonstrated how to copy files in the MCE GUI, but because you are one of the few who have content that displays under Recorded TV > Shared. I have two Windows 7 machines. Music, Recorded TV, etc. is shared via Media Player, which as you know is a DLNA server. From the remote machine, displaying the Media Player libraries works flawlessly but not in Media Center. I think that Recorded TV is a 'special folder' in that it is defaults to user Public and does not have a per user library. Many users reconfigure the location to another volume which I believe (and may attempt to test) breaks it in this scenario. Therefore, I am very interested to hear if you have Recorded TV configured to the default location under Public or if you have moved it. If you have moved it, can you desribe the method. For example, did you mount your DVR storage under Public, ...

Jim - The trick to accessing the shared recorded tv in WMC appears to be joining a homegroup. When I remove my computer from the homegroup, the shared recorded TV is no longer available in Media Center.

I do have my recorded TV folder setup on a separate partition (E:) The directory shows up in C:\Users\Public\Libraries\RecordedTV.library-ms (Hidden), but not in C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV.

Hope this helps...

Andrew,

Well, I have tried every variation on this and am unable to get Recorded TV to display in Media Center on a remote machine under Shared libraries. Things worth noting:

- Media Player Libraries are not the same as Homegroup Libraries

- Media Player/Media Center streaming is allowed or blocked on a per device basis unless you configure it to Allow All.

- Leaving a Homegroup most likely removes allowed Devices (right click Homegroup and select Share With Devices).

- Media Streaming is based on DLNA and is HTTP. Media Streaming is not based on file shares.

- Accessing remote Media Player libraries and streaming (Play To) is done via IPv6 not IPv4.

- Remote Media Player libraries will show as empty if there are insufficient folder privileges at the file system level. Read permission is required but not sure which user. Adding Everyone with read permission works but obviously is not the right way to do it.

- Media Center has a custom Library called Movies that does not ...
