This year's U.S Open Golf Championship takes place at Pebble Beach, one of the world's most beautiful and famous courses. As if that's not enough, you've also got the ongoing saga of Tiger Woods and his "comeback" from infidelity. If you can't be in front of the TV for all the coverage, the U.S. Open Golf Championship iPhone app has you covered. The App has been fully updated for 2010 and is compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
I found the Masters iPhone App to be very slick, so I was anxious to dive into the U.S. Open app get a closer look.
When you open the U.S. Open Golf Championship app, you're greeted with a menu of options.

Video will give you not only pre-recorded interviews and features, but live coverage of current action. The Live action is the killer feature. While you can't pick and choose what you want to watch, you do get featured group coverage, which in many cases would be a golf fans preferred viewing choice anyway.

As of Thursday afternoon (6-17-2010) the live coverage featured the super group of Phil Mickelson, Paddy Harrington, and Y.E. Yang. All winners of major championships.

Tap Scores from the main menu to get the latest scoreboard and tee times.

Hole by hole descriptions including video and fly overs.

You can also look up any of your favorite players...

And follow Tweets from the course.

Overview
It really is great to have live coverage and scoring on the go and this app certainly does the job. It doesn't feel quite as slick and user friendly as the Masters iPhone app, but it's certainly a great addition for any golf fan. The Masters app had more viewing options and I couldn't find a schedule of who or what would be featured, but these are relatively minor inconveniences. It has live coverage and live scoring, so everything else is just icing on the cake in my book.
You can get the U.S. Open Golf Championship app here or in the App Store. And, it's totally free.
